Our Mission

The implementation of the Lundy model within the project ensures that children’s voices are central to the development and utilisation of green spaces. By fostering a child-centered, inclusive, and collaborative approach, the project not only enhances the playfulness and ecological value of these environments but also empowers children to become active participants and stewards of their natural surroundings. This alignment of objectives and strategies creates a robust framework for promoting a sustainable, child-friendly green space that benefits the entire community.

Our project aims to create an engaging, sustainable, and nature-rich environment for children and families, fostering a love for nature and promoting ecological awareness.

Early childhood educators observed improved socialisation, problem solving, focus, self regulation, creativity and self-confidence, and reduced stress, boredom and injury. Outdoor play spaces are important for promoting children's wellbeing and development.

Our Values

Child-Centered Design

Implementing the Lundy model of participation within this project will significantly enhance its effectiveness by ensuring that children’s voices are integral to the development and use of green space. This approach aligns with the Playful Green Planet’s goals by prioritising child participation, and the creation of inclusive, playful environments that truly reflect children’s rich cultural heritage.

Environmental Stewardship

A key goal of our project is to instill a sense of environmental stewardship in children. By actively involving children in the planning and development process through the Lundy model, they become more invested in the green spaces they help create. This participation fosters a deeper connection to nature and a stronger commitment to environmental preservation, aligning with the project’s sustainability goals.

Creating Inclusive and Safe Spaces

The Lundy model’s focus on creating safe and inclusive opportunities for children to express their views dovetails with the Playful Green Planet’s objective of designing spaces that are accessible and welcoming to all children, including those with disabilities and from diverse backgrounds. Child lore is a vital aspect of childhood that encompasses the shared cultural expressions and practices of children. By understanding and integrating child lore into the project, we can create more meaningful and engaging experiences for children that respect and celebrate their cultural heritage. . This inclusivity ensures that every child can benefit from and contribute to the green spaces.

Multi-Professional Collaboration

A key aspect of this project is the formation of a multi-professional team comprising educators, trainers, community leaders, family support organisations such as schools and children’s centres. This team will work collaboratively to ensure that the Lundy model’s principles are embedded in practice to address the diverse needs of children and families.

Creating Safe and Inclusive Spaces

By developing and maintaining green spaces, the project will provide children with safe and inclusive environments to explore and express their ideas and understandings. These spaces will be designed to be accessible to all children, including those with disabilities and from marginalised communities.

Empowering Children’s Voices

The project will incorporate various methods to empower children to express their views and share and celebrate their ideas. This includes interactive workshops, creative arts, and technology-assisted platforms where children can share their thoughts and ideas about green spaces and other aspects of their environment.
